DIS 1505: Preparing for Learning in an Online Environment

 

Experience has shown that too many students taking online courses are not prepared for the experience.  Equipment problems, software problems, communication problems, and a basic misunderstanding what it takes to complete an online course, delay the student from beginning the course in a timely manner, and sometimes force the instructor to teach technology along with the academic material.  At a minimum, this causes frustration for the student and faculty, and in many cases causes the student to withdraw.

 

In an effort to enhance student success in taking online courses, Columbus Technical College developed DIS 1505.  A course description and competencies are shown below. 

Course Description

Provides an orientation to students interested in taking further coursework in an online environment.  This course is for students who have not successfully completed an online/web-based course in the past, and is a pre-requisite for new online students.
